You must use Zope 2.7 (current default version) or Zope 2.8 (fairly stable 
now) with ERP5. It is not ported to Zope 3 at the moment (no idea if it's 
planned or not, but it should not happend in near future).

I never had to build python from source (works with stock python 2.4 from 
mandriva 2006, 2007 and 2007.1, other distros & distros versions are not 
tested but should work out of the box), so I'm sorry I cannot help you here.
